I don't know about Rickenbacker in particular, since the strings are contract strings, but almost every string manufacturer uses the same plain steel wire for their plain guitar strings, and most of the manufacturers, I believe, still get their raw wire from Mapes.

So, regardless of whether the winding on wound strings is made of steel, nickel, nickel coated steel, etc., the plain/not wound strings, usually the E & B, and something G, strings are always steel? Thanks.

Thank you! So, I heard from a few online guitar string sellers. (The reason I asked in the first place was that Google wasn't much help.) They said that ALL plain strings are made of stainless steel regardless of the winding on the set's wound strings including stainless steel sets, nickel coated sets, pure nickel sets, etc.

NOT stainless.
