Just to re-iterate and add emphasis...the original post specifically mentioned the DCM smell, which Mr. Hall addressed.
The much-vaunted "new Rick" smell, which I hear will be released as a women's perfume (in order to bring men from the music room back into the bedroom), I have found in new cases which never contained a Rickenbacker guitar, specifically "universal" SKB cases, and also in others made by vintage case replica companies. My Fender Jag case had the smell.
This has caused me to attribute the smell to the adhesive used to glue the plush lining into the cases.
_________________ Rickenbackers: I love to play them. I enjoy the challenge of working on them. I love the way they sound.

Thank you Mr. Hall. I do believe you are right. Although both the 620 case and the 360 case have the glue smell I went back to my guitars and found no oder what so ever on the 325C58 MG nor the 620. Also after spending a whole day with my 360 the beauty of the melody seems to far out weigh any minor inconvienence I may have first perceived. Thanks again for a beautiful guitar.

Quote: I just received my third Ricky the other day. I was fortunate enough to accuire a DMC 360 and after giving it a couple of days to get aquainted, it's a beauty. However there does seem to be an unpleasent oder. Not sure if it is glue or lacquer, but it is quite strong.
I just took delivery of a 4003 DCM and it smells like cherries. It's made one whole room of my flat smell of Ric Bass. Ha ha..smells ok tho. All my 4003's must have been almost 'factory direct' as they've all had a strong paint smell for aprox a month. Then they whiff no more! The DCM version does have a slightly cherry fragrance tho. Its cool, I like it. High as a kite after sniffing it during a bass session! (Joke) :0)

I just recieved a new 360 Jetglo and there is a vanilla smell that permeates the inside case and guitar.Whatever it is it's a great addition to the guitar, even though it wears off eventually.

Teh vanilla smell is the glue used in the case construction.

Well now it has been over 30 days and do you know what? My 360 DMC has a verry pleasent order. I must confess that it has toned down quite a bit from the time I first got it.....or perhaps I've just grown accustomed to; anyway I keep it very close to my den chair and is usually the first one I grab. And that might bring me to my next question. In all honesty, what is your favorite guitar? If you had to pick one.....
