Hi,
This guitar came with an appraisal saying it's a 1966 425, but with no reason as to why. As the vibrato cover is missing I have no serial number.
I though I would do my own detective work to find out what I can about this 425.
Here are a few pics but I can take more of specific areas if it will help ID it. As you can see someone changed the turning keys. For now I'm going to put on a set of Rickenbacker vintage reissue tuners as I do not like the look of the modern replacements.
BTW - One thing I have never seen is a pic of what the originals 425's vibrato arm looked like. Does anyone know?

Hi,
I have found this guitar on the Rickenbacker Register which is a big help, and I see it still had the vibrato arm in the photos. It is listed as a 1966 but I'm still not sure exactly why. Maybe that's a best guess based on production numbers with a vibrato and other clues.
My plan is to replace the tuners and the vibrato arm but not do much else to it.
I have noticed these vibratos on eBay from time to time and may pick one up for the cover.
I'll post a couple photos when I'm done.
If anyone does know why this is a 66 as opposed to 65, 67 etc I'l love to know
