Im going to take issue with the statement that Gilmour is a better bassist than Waters. First, its not a contest - many great bands switched up instruments in order to get the sound or part desired. Second, Waters has layed down some of the most iconic bass groves in the history of rock - Money and Have a Cigar would qualify him in my book as amazing just in themselves. Maybe his technique is not the most technical of abilities but more in the way he expresses a mood and carries the groove of a song.

I've got nothing against Waters - I think he's a really brilliant guy. However, he did not come up with the more intricate bass lines like for Money, Have a Cigar, Pigs (Three Different Ones), etc... Those are all from the brilliant mind of David Gilmour. Waters could certainly play those lines later during tours. However, in the initial recordings, it was all Gilmour. This is actually not much different than in the early days of U2 when The Edge came up with almost all of their bass lines and taught them to Adam Clayton. Regards, Koose

Not trying to quibble - but I had never heard that Gilmour wrote the bass for Have a Cigar and Money. Being a huge Pink Floyd fan myself can you recommend a book that breads down this kind of information?

I just remember reading and seeing interviews with Gilmour where he mentions that he plays the more difficult bass parts. In fact, in one interview he joked about Roger always thanking Dave for winning him best or favorite bass player awards. That should tell you how a lot. Regards, Koose
