Post subject:  Finish touch up question

I just got a '76 4001 JetGlo. The bass is in great shape as a player, but it probably has spent the last 30 years working hard. (thanks John for making such a great product).

Anyway, there are some little chips and dings that you would expect, but the one that gets me is a place about 2 inches in diameter on the front that has the finish chipped off to the wood. Granted, there is a 'Willie Nelson' sort of feel to it, but I was thinking about trying to paint over that.

I know I won't be able to match the finish texture, and this isn't a restoration project. I was just hoping to get the spot covered so it isn't as noticeable.

Any suggestions? Should I fix the problem or accept the mojo?
