and this is my first post on the forum. I owned a ric in high school, but have mostly played Fender lately.

I spend most of my time in the Fender forum but this seems like a great place to learn about my new instrument.

How's everyone doing?

Welcome to the RIC forum. I, too have played lots of Fenders. Last year I finally bought what I've always wanted: a Rickenbacker 4003. My Fenders are going up for sale soon. They are just collecting dust under the bed now.

That is my opinion of my Rick 4003. I play it exclusively now. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

As to the Fender Forum, you'll probably recognize a few familiar names on this page, too.

Another Ric site(not a corporate page) is rickresource.com.
I saw one of the FDP moderators on there yesterday.

Hey, lanztek. What color did you order? I just got mine about a week ago (Montezuma Brown), and it's beautiful. I too have been a Fender man for many years. Maybe it's because my Fenders have always been good ones, but I can't say anything bad about the ones I've owned (and still own).

I love the Rics as well. But unlike a lot of folks, I can't see why you can't enjoy different basses at different times. I kind of look at it like a woman. You might have a strong preference for blondes. But when a drop-dead gorgeous brunette or redhead walks by, there's no shame in admiring their beauty. And one might speak with a French accent; one all-American; etc., but you might enjoy the voice/"sound" coming from each of them. No shame in diversity...

Welcome.

I have a Fender Jazz Fretless (which has both Jazz and P pickups) and I also have a regular Fender P bass. I like them both. But my primary bass is my RIC 4003. I just absolutely love it. Most of my work is on the 4003. If I need just a little bit more clanky sound, or for popping and slapping, I use the P. Obviously the fretless is used for that fretless sound. I like all of them, but my fingers just tend to love the 4003 the most. I just love the fingerboard. We'll appreciate your feedback after you get yours back too. Everyone's different, so you never know.

Fireglo...and I'm really looking forward to getting it here. I'll post an evaluation of it after I've had a chance to try it out. I'm hoping it's a nice bass and not a crapshoot like Fenders are.

I dunno.........maybe 8^) Actually, I probably did.
I do use flats on my P, but Rick rounds on my 4003.

First off. . . congratZ on your 4003 purchase!

I spend a ton'o time on the FDP and think it is a great sight!

I really like this site a lot right now. It is great that we get Mr. Hall's personal time and opinion on this site. Kinda' like the Fender corporate people used to chime in on the FDP before it got so huge.

Although I mainly play Fender basses now. . . I could not imagine not owning my 4001!

Ted
