I am famous in my neighborhood. Everybody hates me. With my amp an two cabs I achieve only about 600 watts of power. That’s not too noisy...don't you think?

There are plenty of famous musicians who use either a 4001 or 4003, but you should play one yourself to see how it sounds, feels, and plays for you personally. Good luck, I hope you find what you seek.

Definitely play one for yourself. It's an experience I can't describe... The first time you pick up a Rick, you never want to put one down again.

That said, the Rick has many, many different sounds. Here are the most familiar.

Rush - Circumstances
A great growl, some awesome high end sound... almost 'bubbly'

Muse - Knights of Cydonia
A Rick with distortion. Sounds just as good when effects are thrown in.

Yes (Chris Squire) - Solo from "Ritual"
Played with a pick, very aggressive sound. Has a 'fuzz' sound to it.

The Beatles - Hello Goodbye
A more subdued sound. Really bassy with a 'thump' to it.

The Jam - Going Underground
Played with a pick, quite aggressive. Lots of treble, but still a lot of bass.

Agreed. Any guitar or bass will sound different in the hands of different people. Alot of tone seems to be in the hands.

You can go to my website, found in my profile. There you'll hear short sound clips of some of my basses. Some of them are not the best quality recording, but you'll get the idea of the sound.

Ric5 also has some sound clips of his Rick basses on his website:

I believe D'amour was only on the very first TOOL album. Also, I think you mean Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Technically you're both right. Waters was the bassist but, Gilmour played bass on a lot of the recordings, including the fretless on "Hey You", among many others, and he played the Ric on some of those recordings, I am told. It seems Gilmour is a better bassist than Roger, not surprisingly.

I had never heard that. I stand corrected.
