I know this topic is discussed a million times...but I really like to get some feed back.
I recently purchased a gorgeous 1972 4001, it sounds amazing!
What I noticed was in the case there was an orange capacitor taken out of the bass.
What is the purpose of the capacitor, is it a volume thing, a frequency thing?
I'm reluctant to put it back in, I love the tone I'm getting now. I also have a 1973 4001 with the capacitor still in...here's what I notice between the two, the '72 has a deeper rounder bottom end, while my '73 has better mid-range. I was thinking maybe of putting a push-pull pot in both as a by-pass switch...your thoughts?

The capacitor acts as a high pass filter and cuts some of the bass frequencies.
All 4003 models in recent years have a push-pull switch that does exactly what you describe..
