I wonder if that greenburst one really is a true 30.5" incher, meaning measures 15.25" from the inside edge of nut to the middle of the 12th fret, or if it is a regular 4003 scale bass with just the bridge assembly moved closer to the pup like pictured so that is why they are calling it 30.5", which would mean it really would not play with the shorter reach between frets like a shortscale bass does.

So just count the frets. The typical 4003 bass has 20 frets (there were a few 21-fretters, too). Rickenbacker did make a production short scale, the 3000 back in the '70s-'80s, and it had 21 frets on a 30" scale neck.
