I have the same model, same year, in Jetglo.
Clean the entire bass thoroughly with VM&P Naptha, then apply a couple coats of high-quality car wax, buffed to a gleaming shine using a pure cotton diaper or cloth, including the neck and fingerboard. I use Zymol, but everyone has a favorite. Also, wipe down the strings with a light application of lemon oil thinned with naptha.
Always best to check the Rickenbacker owner's manual, which is easy to do on this site.

Mine is also a 1976 I assume as I bought it in March 1977. I use Guardian Lustre Guard Creme. It is a blend of high quality waxes. I do not use anything else to clean it as my bass is in same condition as a new one, protected in case for 41 years. Bought at the END of my music career when my first blonde 4001 was stolen. This one is medium brown.
