Long ago, I had heard from two independent sources about a mythical event -- no one knows if true or not, but it was that in the 60s, McCartney's Rick bass had a capacitor of some sort put in the circuit to roll off some of the treble response -- informally called the 'McCartney mod.' Of course rolling back the tone control would do this... still this rumor still circulates. This, supposedly, was not part of the later mid 70s restoration the bass had at the factory -- happened much earlier, really in his prime mid 1960s years of using it.

If something like that had happened, we would have heard all about it from those who worked on the instrument when it was brought to the factory for refurb during the Wings Over America tour.
