I am the proud owner of 4001cs #298 which I acquired a few years ago. It's overall condition is excellent, however I've always wondered what the small, white-ish light streaks and dots in the grain of the fretboard and sides of the headstock are. Just about every 4001cs I've seen pictured online has this characteristic. The one pictured in the official Rickenbacker Book also displays whitish marks in the grain. The finish on my fretboard is thick, glossy and scratch and crack free.
Is this just a characteristic of that particular wood/guitar?

That's woodgrain filler. The vermilion wood is quite porous and needs to be filled in order to provide a smooth finish.

John! I'm always thrilled and amazed when you respond to your customers! That is good news and exactly what I wanted to hear. It's official now, I have one of the finest examples of a 4001cs on the planet! Gotta go... time to play! Thanks!!!
