Hi I'm back after being gone from the forum for 7 years, I was a regular for awhile.
Hopefully this hasn't been asked too many times but how many of you bring a backup bass to gigs. Thanks so much and great to be back!

I never brought a back up bass, but I did many times bring multiple basses that all got played during shows.

Thanks for your response. I probably should have asked do you bring more than just one Rick to a gig. I know that Ricks don't need a "back up".

I always take a back up bass. Murphy's Law. Usually in my classic rock band I will pull out the old 75 4001 or my c64s and take a Hofner or P-bass...
My top 40 band my 4003W gets the nod along with my Stingray5

In 32 years of use, only twice did I have to actually use a backup for my 4001. First time was when breaking the pickguard back in the 80s Hair Metal era...Second time was when the eletrical wiring of the gig location was so bad, an electric razor sound was coming out of the bass....

I never bring a backup. I should, but I don't. My 3 Ricks all serve entirely different purposes (4003 with rounds sounds modern, 4001C64 with flats sounds vintage, and 4003FL with white tapewounds sounds...fretless), so none of them really backup the others well for any particular gig.

Please don't hate me for being a lazy lightweight, but I've been using the Hofner to ease backache, and traveled light with no fallback instrument.That did bite me at one recent gig, where I had to make a quick trip home for a 4003 Jg. Broken Hofner

Broken HofnerYou're in good company. Paul McCartney told me that a back back is pretty much the primary reason he keeps playing the Hofner on stage (and generally using the RIC in the studio).

Seeing as none of us are getting any younger and none of us want to see the bass models "lightened" in any way,maybe John,you could bring out a "Rickenstool" to ease the pains.
