I just purchased a used Rickenbacker bass from a guy in my town. I attempted to attach a photo - hope it worked. I checked the serial number as ZG1905 and the website decoder says that the bass was manufactured in July 1986. I'm not sure what the model is. Based on the serial number and manufacture year is it possible to determine the model number? Also, how difficult is it for me to find out if all of the parts and pieces on the bass are original or if they have been replaced? And finally, it would great to hear any comments pro or con about the bass in general including playability, favorite strings, maintenance issues, etc. Thanks and cool forum.

Pretty small photo, but it appears to be a standard Jetglo 4003. Can't see anything unusual about it in that small a photo. You can learn all about this model and nearly 40 others in the book that is out there.

I can vouch for Paul's book, it is the bible of Rickenbacker bass. Great read and a great reference. Your picture is quite small, but it appears that your bass is pretty much stock, how does she play? Whatever you want to know, you can find it here!

FWIW my son's 4003S/BT is also a ZG serial (and aptly nicknamed Ziggy), and it sounds awesome.
