My C64S Horseshoe has had the cap bypassed, giving me the bigger sound.

My question is, with the cap bypassed, how different is this pickup compared to if I swapped it our for a Hi_Gain (4003 style)? Or once the cap has been removed from the Horseshoe are they pretty much the same?

From memory the C64 HS is closer to the RI toaster in DC resistance ~ 7 to 8 kohms. The higain is a lot hotter ~ 12 to 13 kohms.

Did you mod it using a push-pull switch or just bypass the cap with a wire?

Reason I ask is I've thought about adding the switch but was wondering if the cavity was deep enough to accept it.

The new RIC bypass switch is designed to fit the cavity.

I put one of the new push/pull pots (from POTR) in my 4001C64S and it lets me switch between a 4001 and a 4003 sound. It was easy to do and I highly recommend it.

Silly question - what's POTR?

The re-issue horseshoe pickup that I tried was very similar to the standard high gain pickup in tone and in ohms. The main difference was visual. It looked more retro.

so... if my C64 horseshoe has the cap in place (thinner sound) and a 2014 4003 has the vintage tone button on (thinner sound also) would these essentially be the same ? or are they kinda different sounding pickeups?

Does anyone know what the reissue horeshoes are wound to? and what bridge hi-gain from a 4003 is wound to?

also... could I put a hi gain treble pickup but still leave the metal shoes intact? is that a straight swap without any drastic mods?
