Just an idea ... but it would be cool to re-issue the original 4004 C bass with the walnut wings and the oil finish ...

I'm not sure if the factory is running any 4004 models of any kind now ... they did not have new 4004 ones displayed at NAMM show last year. I don't know if the model is discontinued "permanently" or, perhaps just off the production run for a year or two ? I think a couple of Ric dealers in the USA still had a couple of 4004 models listed in their inventories that I saw over the calendar year. I know several Ric enthusiasts who love their 4004 models the best of all !

History suggests that production of the 4004 models is cyclical and done perhaps to a schedule of order accumulation. Perhaps "orders for 4004 have piled up to 100, so let's make 150 or so next week." Then supply meets demand for a short time, then demand (back orders) starts to accumulate again. Just my guess. I have no insight, really. But RIC bass production concentrates on the perpetual demand for 4003 models, with the fretless and lefties dropping in once in a while.

Paul --- I hope you're right and that its cyclical production and that they will gear up for another batch of 4004 models based on Orders projections.

Alternative medicine: get a 4003SW and swap pups. Then you get the heavier bridge as well.

Or you could make a 4003.5 bass (4003 body with 4004 electronics.).

4003 with new guts, HB1's and two controls and one selector.

Lumg ---Does your modified 4003-and-a-half sound like a 4004 with the HB1s ?

Not familiar enough with 4004 to say.

Sounds like a 4003 but waaaay better.
Just as bright and punchy but flabbier sounding, bigger bass on the low end.
I liken it to talking on the phone vs. in person. 4003 is like on the phone. 4003.5 is like in person. Like the sound is way better. No noise/hum either. Silence.
