I think they are factory made in batches so you have to be at the crest of the wave when they come out for sale. I was searching for a 4003 LH ( I have a 4001v63 LH, and had a 4001CS LH too) and got a 2012 version (I think) after a long drought of searching for one. Then in 2016 there was suddenly a wave of them on sale... Some are still in shops. In Nottingham, UK there was a lefty jetglo 4003 a few months ago.

I just received my 2017 4003S (lefty) in Jetglo. The bass sounds fantastic. When I compare the neck to my 4001v63, the 4003S feels quite more comfortable. I also have to say that the Rickenbacker strings it came with feel and sound amazing. This one only took 5 months ... that's pretty fast for a left-handed instrument!
