I have an old yellow Boss OD-2 for mild overdrive tones and a ProCo Rat for more distorted tones. I love them both and when combined, they make a truly crazed sound.

The ProCo is indeed built like a tank and when the switch recently broke, ProCo had me ship them the pedal (they are made in Kalamazoo) and they fixed it for free, despite the pedal being more than 10 years old. Customer service does not get any better than that!

(...) How heavy can the distortion get on the Marshall Jackhammer pedal? If I get another distortion pedal, it needs to be one that can go from somewhat mild to very distorted and heavy.

There is always someone who asks for even more gain, but in my opinion the Jackhammer already offers maximum distortion. It has two modes: overdrive and distortion. While the overdrive sounds similar to the Marshall tube amps, the distortion offers the heavier sound. You can also get alternative and punk sounds in the distortion mode. So there is anything from mild overdrive to trash metal.

That sounds cool. I might get one then, because the distortion pedal I use for guitar right now is not that good, and it's a bit of a "one-trick pony" as well. Thanks for the info.
