About 14 years ago a mutal friend wanted to get rid of his guitar and sold me a Rickenbacker for £100 (about $150).

I have had it ever since but have never known what it is.

I have looked at this website and the serial number says that was manufactured in May 1979, it is fireglo and is either a 450 or a 950 according to Model Identification, although I can't see this colour.

If anybody could let me know about its history or where I could look that would be great as after seeing this great site I am very interested.

Many thanks

Orangebee, take a look at this webpage, it has examples of both guitars you're asking about.

http://www.homestead.com/aurs3/leftybass.html

This was my collection in early 2003, it has changed a little since then, but one thing to bear in mind is that 450 and 950 shared the same bodystyle by some point in the 70's. The 950 was a 3/4-scale guitar in the 60's, look at the one I have from 1967. If it looks like that, then it's definitely a 950.

Go to the tab at the top of this page that says "Service" and click on "Model Identification" in the dropdown menu.

Many thanks John,

Nice collection!

It seems more like the 450 as is has the same body shape although it has different pickups, and the same bridge as the 950! Now I'm confused.

Would a couple of pictures help? If so please say and I'll post.

Thanks

Orangebee

John and Banta,

Just found a picture on http://www.rickbeat.com/ of a "modern" 450. That's the one.

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Hi mate,

i have a rickenbacker book that covers all the models since rickenbacker first begun... i think.

I cant find it at the moment but maybe try and dig one out of a library or see if you can get hold of one from amazon..

might be your best bet unless someone here actually knows off hand.
