Last year I bought my dream instrument, Montezuma Brown 660/12, best looking, best feeling guitar ever. But when I plugged it in, I could not get THE sound out of it, it sounded like a 12string Telecaster. It did not have that typical jangle sound you get with other RICs. I can remember a post somewhere on this forum where Mr Hall said that the 12string bridge changes the sound to something that is not really familiar with RICs...so, I finally sold the instrument. Had a 620/12 before, from the early 90s, with lots of dings and scratches and heavy as a chair (the 660/12 was light as a feather!), but it sounded fantastic. Well, both of them gone now, and still looking for the ideal RIC 12...
Has anybody of you out there noticed something RIC-unusual with the sound of your 660/12? Would really like to know.

Ditto for me, Dan. Swapped my 660/12 Monty Brown with Chris @ POTR and returned to the semi-acoustic sounds of a new, stock 330/12 Amber Fireglo. I actually preferred the narrower neck and string spacing of the 300-series. Transition to the 330/12's longer, wider, deeper dimension was smooth since my 370/6 Burgundyglo has the same dimensions. Have owned two Rick 12's. A 660/12 and a 360/12WB. When the time came that I just had to have the 350V63 hanging at the local Rick dealer I had to make a choice...which 12 to keep and which to sell? After all of 10 minutes soul searching I had the 660 on the bay. The 360 won hands down. Great tone, great playability, and great looks of the WB beat the (IMHO) prettier but more singular sound of the 660. I had bought the 660 thinking I needed the wider neck but came away loving the 360/12WB even more. My opinion...YMMV.

Thanks for the reply. Just borrowed the 360/12 JG from a friend of mine, put Tetrahedron flatwounds on it, and there you got it: Wonderful jangle. I think those Tetrahedrons are a big part of the sound, but they didn't help my 660, which I mentioned above. I must say the 660s are still my favourite RIC because of the looks, but I wouldn't buy any of those again.

Tetrahedron? Some ghost changed the word P-Y-R-A-M-I-D, don't know what happened there!

There's a word block on the server, you can't say the P word.It's not the brand of string, as much as putting a good set of flats on it.I went from Pyras to a mutt set made from T I's and Ric strings to get a lighter gauge than the Ps.On a 370-12 RM.

My 660/12TP has JUST the Ric sound I'm looking for. It's got a classic Ric jangle that isn't good for the 12-string Tom Petty songs, but is good for Byrds and Beatles tunes, too!

I have played a couple, (still savin for one) and it is different from the 360/12 tone wise but, vive la difference' I'm one of those guys who doesn't care if i sound just like someone else, but i do know great sound when I hear it!!

I like the wider sound pallet available from the 360 with high gains a little more than that of the 660.

That said, I'm wild about the 660. The fact that it is a little easier for me to play makes it tough to really choose which I like more.

One question you 660-12 guys can answer for me, as I'm not sure I've ever played one, even though I've played their kin:

How is the balance of a 660-12? With the smaller body and 12 tuners, it looks like it could be a tad neck-heavy, but we all know Maple is denser, therefore heavier, than a lot of other woods, and of course, my 4002 is balanced just fine.
