Getting myself ready to leave the house today, I turned on television. An old film entitled 'It's A Bikini World' ('67)was on. Think of the worst beach films from the 60s and you'll get the idea. I saw the Gentry's play/mime a song which was terrible! The next musical number was the Animals playing 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place'. The band looked great. Eric exuded cool -but Hilton Valentine playing a Fireglo 1997 stole the scene. So cool...

Sorry to hijack this old thread, but this was the only Animals topic I could find. . .

Anyway, on a break at Saturday night's gig, I heard The Animals' "It's My Life," and I was wondering if anyone else has identified that simple guitar intro as being a twelve-string.

I've become obsessed: I think I hear Rickenbacker 12s everywhere (e.g., the 8th-note intro to Peter & Gordon's "Go to Pieces").

I've also just ordered a (totally unnecessary) Mapleglo 620/12 (thanks to Mark and Tim at The Music Zoo). Stop me before I buy again!

If you can afford it... go for it brother!

I'd be glad to get another 4003, this time in Jetglo (mine is FG), but my when I look at my pocket ... :(

Sure sounds like it to me!

Hilton Valentine of The Animals had a Vox Mark 12 (teardrop design) and also a Rickenbacker 12 string. He recalls it was a Rose Morris model 1993 that he acquired along with a 1964 Rose Morris model 1997. The 1997 is pictured in many photos of the band.

The 12-string guitar on "I Go to Pieces" is an acoustic doing the intros, and a 6-string acoustic on the fills in the verses. You may have been thinking of "World Without Love", by Peter & Gordon, featuring a slick Ric 12-string on the lead.

I just changed out the hi-gains for toasters on my 27-year-old 360/12, and playing both "World Without Love" and "It's My Life" with the neck pickup is THE sound.

I, too, am hearing Rics all over the place now, after changing out my pickups. How about "Sunday Will Never Be the Same" by Spanky and the Gang? Or "Stormy" and "Spooky" by The Classics IV?

The intro to Rose of Cimarron by Poco sure sounds Ricky to me.

I just heard "Kicks" by Paul Revere and the Raiders on the oldies station. I think there's both a Ric 6 and 12 on that one.

I remember reading that the "Kicks" guitar part is actually overdubbed: two guitars an octave apart. If ya can trust "Tiger Beat" circa 1968. . .

But you might well be correct about my confusing the two Peter and Gordon tunes.
