Sansho - the current switch is a combination potentiometer and bypass switch, not the DPDT switch in my diagrams, which is the older switch no longer being sold in the RIC boutique.

Link to the current switch:

Link to the current wiring diagram if all you want is the bypass. This is the bass version, but works on the guitars as well:

Hi,

I would like to know if this .0047 cap and push/pull pot mod is recommended for a Ric 330/6 2-pickup guitar since I see it mostly on 12 string models. I have replaced the hi-gain pickups with toasters and, even though I'm close, I'm still not getting that vintage tone I've been looking for.

If it is recommended could I please have a copy of the diagram.

Thank you in advance.

Danny, I will be happy to send you a diagram, but before I do, it might be just as easy on a two-pickup guitar to purchase the bypass push-pull from the boutique and put it where the 5th knob is and wire it as the 4003 bass is wired with the bypass. That way, when you switch from "modern" to "vintage" you can pull the 5th knob and adjust the gain of the neck pickup at the same time.

Current bypass switch link in the boutique:
http://boutique.rickenbacker.com/POTENT ... p_666.html

You will also need to purchase a .0047 capacitor. The number of "zeros" in the value is critical.

Schematic so you can transfer the bass bypass switch wiring to guitar wiring:

Hi iiipopes,

Thanks for your reply. The problem is I wouldn't know how to connect the push-pull using the schematic. I have a wire going from the 5th knob to the p-up selector switch, and another from the 5th knob to the bass volume knob. Then there are two wires which attach directly to the chassis of the 5th knob which I'm assuming are grounds.

I was wondering if your diagram shows where to connect each wire on the push-pull and capacitor. Sorry for my inexpertness; hope I'm not being much of a bother.

Regards,
Danny

Either way it's ok.

Sorry about the late reply. Yes, my diagrams do show where each wire connects.

Hello iiipopes,

I have a 370-12 stereo/mono. I would like a copy of your mod. Thanks so much. My email is dcraft2@cox.net.

Hi everybody, there are already a ton of threads about the 5th knob so I didn't want to make another one, but I still haven't found the answer I'm looking for.

I have a Japanese 350 copy (Greco RG750 Jetglo), which I just got and like a lot. The wiring seems to be like on the real Rick's: switch in up position is neck+middle, switch in middle position is all 3 pup's with the 5th knob acting as a balance control between the bridge and the neck+middle pickups, switch in down position is bridge pickup alone.

I don't really think I need to do the 0047 capacitor mod since after adjusting the height of the pickups and polepieces the bridge pickup doesn't really sound weaker than the other two (though I'd be curious to hear precisely how it sounds before and after).

I would like to know precisely how I can convert the fifth knob to a dedicated volume for the middle pickup, mostly in order to be able to play the neck pickup by itself without the middle pickup, but also to blend the middle pickup with the other two pickups as I see fit. I can use a soldering iron but I'm not extremely good at reading wiring diagrams. I'd like to do this mod without having to add a push/pull pot if possible.

I hope this is not frowned upon but I've changed the location of the controls so that they are placed like they are on Gibsons (I'm much more used to it and I constantly switch between a 3 pup LP Custom and the Greco on stage so that's easier).

Here is a picture of the guts of my guitar, if anyone could explain to me in basic terms how I could go about doing this mod, it would be greatly appreciated !

Also just for argument's sake, would it be possible both to achieve this mod and to add/cut the treble cap using a push pull ?

Thank you all very much
