Just wondering if I have an issue. When I turn the volume knob off on either pickup, even though you can't hear the sound of the guitar, I still hear a single-coil type hum when the volume knob is off. It's much more noticeable when using overdrive. Not bad in the clean channel. Just a bit annoying. Is this the nature of the beast? Any technical advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure it's not your amp, an instrument cable or effects pedal?

Hi...I checked amp, cables, cords, etc... not sure what it is. It's not the blend knob either. I wonder if it's a ground issue. To cut the hum after a song playing live, I step on my Boss TU-2 tuner and that cuts the signal. I'll look into it further. Thanks! Happy New Year!!!

It's normal. It depends on the way the volume pots are wired - some guitars (eg Strats and Teles) have it with the input to the pot on the top terminal and the output on the center terminal, so when the pot is turned off the output is grounded, which stops all noise. Most (all?) Ricks have it the other way round, with the input on the center terminal and the output on the top, so when the pot is turned off the PICKUP is grounded, but the output is open and will hum slightly. If you did it the other way round, when the switch is in the center position, either volume control will turn off both pickups (like a Gibson).
