Post subject:  New string spacing for 350v63, possible?

I recently purchased a beautiful maple flamed 660/6 in fireglo, having played only Fenders and Gibsons for over 30 years this was a revelation indeed.

I love the 660 and it has prompted me to look at a 350v63 which uses the same toaster pups and has a regular 24.75" scale, my only concern is the narrower 1-5/8" nut means very close string spacing, unlike the 660/6 at 1-3/4".

I play lots of lead and need a little more room, is it possible to cut a new nut with wider spacing, there appears to be almost 1/8th of an inch on each side of the strings. I have heard there is a way to respace 12 strings on traditional 1-5/8" Ric nuts, what about 6 strings?

Thanks and Regards, Kez

I think however you space the strings Kez you are still going to have that narrow feel to the neck. That said it's not that bad a deal. I've got away with playing lead on a Ric for years!!! The narrow neck although seemingly restrictive at first is quite cool to do things on that you may struggle with on a standard neck. My advice would be to buy it, see how you get along. These guitars fetch good money even when used. So if you can't get on with it after a while you won't lose that much. Just my opinion.

This guitar normally comes with the same nut as used on the Model 330. As such, it is the widest cut nut we offer besides the 660 and 380.

What you've heard relates to the 360 or guitars with binding on the neck where you can have a 330 nut installed that disregards the width of the binding. But you've already got this on a 350V63.

Whoa, that was quick!

Thanks so much for the info guys, especially to Mr Hall, if you are still there, can you tell me why it seems so hard to find a 660/6 these days, seems all shops are out of stock wherever you go on the net!(apart from a couple of Montezuma Brown 660's with tremelo units at PM Blues)

Main reason for the 350v63 is that I can't find a new 660/6 for sale anywhere!?

Then again a 1997 mapleglo 350v63 covered in nice birdseyes on body and neck is a desirable object in it's own right, is it not?

Thanks again!

Kez

So desirable that I have gone ahead and purchased my second Ric (get 'em when you can) here is a look at it:

The long backlog has essentially ensured that there's hardly any stock of anything at any dealer anywhere. It's not a model-specific problem.

Having delved deeper into it the last few days I have become more aware of the situation regarding availability of Rics, I know that this is mostly because of a no compromise approach to superb quality in construction, so you will hear no complaints from me!

On the contrary, it becomes a treasure hunt and look I just unearthed my second gem of a Ric!

Thanks for your help.

Cheers, Kez
