I think you have the definition of stereo confused.

Stereo - In audio, a process of using separate signals on separate channels for the left and right audio, thereby giving depth, or dimension to the sound.

I use the ric-o-sound on my 4001 to run effects on the treble pickup. You can run a flanger on the bridge pickup into a guitar amp while letting the neck pickup run unaffected through a bass amp. This really opens up the sound tremendously adding a 3 dimensional quality to it while not sacrificing a strong bottom end.
