For me, the fact that I so rarely saw a RIC in person just made it all the more desirable. To this day, I think I have only ever seen one RIC in a store: a used 4003 in Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd.

^agreed, before I finally bought my Rick, I only ever saw and played in person 3 of them...a 330 at a Guitar Center in Boston, a 360/12 at my local mom-and-pop music store back in the early 1990s (NO IDEA how they got that, and I wish I'd bought it, it was a 1980s MG model and was in great shape, sounded amazing, and was cheap...they didn't know what they had! Too bad I was only 15 at the time and couldn't afford it!). And I played a 325v59 at another Guitar Center, in Nashua.

They really are great instruments...any time I play mine out or show anyone a picture of me playing it, the reaction is always the same..."WOW, a Rick, I've never actually seen one before!" and of course they comment on the sound :-)

I'm asking myself when the next "one of a kind shows up.
It's been along time since there was an eyecatcher like the greenish 660.
Maybe a nice 650C could bring in some movement...

Yet every Ric manufactured is sold. Every USED Ric online is selling at current or MUCH more than paid for price. Don't understand posts like this, for any brand of bass or guitar.

Actually, used Ricks are irrelevant to whether or not RIC makes money.

More relevant is the fact that every guitar manufactured is sold, generally 18 to 24 months before they are even built! That's why there's a backlog, they can't build them fast enough to out run the orders. I think, RIC is doing pretty well on the making money side of things, especially in an economic situation such as exists right now...

Those other manufacturers show up in magazines more because those companies advertise. Rickenbacker doesn't need to advertise, for the reasons CJ just mentioned.

Conversations (of sorts) on this topic have endlessly on-going for many years.
It's all about supply and demand. PERIOD!
Ric instruments sold as second hand get a high price in the secondary market because of a shortage of new Ric product. Nothing at all new here.

Ric (as a company ) is to be commended. They build top, top quality instruments and us Ric owners have long known and appreciate this.
Sure -They could sell us overseas shoddy goods and get a lot more more product out and ultimately down would go Ric's reputation. And once a "bad" reputation exists with a brand it takes many years to recover from.

Or, they could build as they do in Santa Ana, CA USA using the most top, talented and dedicated people and build 'em well with spectacular fit, finish and depth of gloss.
Ric has chosen and continues to choose the latter approach.
And I don't think that at the end of the day most of us appreciators of top quality would want it any other way. ...

I just saw an ad for Rickenbacker yesterday in Guitar Afficianado Magazine at Kroger. It featured a Maple-glo 381. Beautiful guitar! From what I can tell, Rickenbacker uses print ads fairly frequently in the major guitar magazines.
