Ha- I started out using an old Teletype ASR33 at 110 baud in 1972. The only good thing about it was that you had a record of everything on paper!

When 1200 baud came along years later, we all thought "how could it get any better"?

In my mind that appears to evidence a fairly substantial drop in quality and service over the years. We're not talking "like a late 60's Gretsch" drop, but you know... I noticed.
We're not perfect but we work pretty hard at it. Without seeing your instrument it's hard to say what the story is, especially when it was a pre-owned guitar.

One thing I know for sure; the best instruments in the history of the company are being produced now. Tolerance, consistency, and materials are vastly superior.

If there ever was a low point, it would have been the early to mid 1980's when the factory management and facilities were aging. There was no repeatability or standardization. Even so, the quality was superior to the late 1950's and early 1960's.

As far as designs, setup preferences, and to a lesser extent, spray patterns are concerned, that's subjective. Styles change and some are more long enduring than others. Being realistic, I think we still haven't made either our best instrument or our worst yet.

Equal to the quality of all Rics I've bought since.

I hope John can continue to keep RIC a private company. As soon as I can, I will purchase a new Rickenbacker bass, and that will be better than owning a piece of paper.

+1 - Owning a RIC makes us shareholders !!

I guess we can just let people complain about it, if they don't like it, there are plenty of other brands that they can get in less than a week....let the baby have its bottle, new topic

I'm hoping that wasn't actually aimed at some of my statements....
For if it was, someone definitely missed the point.
But that's just me. Sometimes, I'm a bit thin skinned.

I took it as a pretty general statement.

Okay.
I'll accept it that same way, unless I'm "told" different.
Cheers,

Carlo
