It took 38 years for me to ge my Ric...

And I thought my 36 years must be a record... it would have been 30, when I sold off some rare vinyl LPs, but my son needed some medical attention that cost exactly my Rickypot, and family comes first.

And to all the other reasons already expressed for hanging in there: when you have your Ric, if you get any problems the CEO of the company knows the products and will help you sort them out. You won't get that from Leo or Les!

Fields,

The only 12 string Ricks in town here are two used ones.

The 900 series is asking $900 but is solid body.

The 1990's 340 is asking $1500! You can get a brand new from Musicians Friends or Zzounds for under $1200 with case and free shipping.

I just looking for under $900 with taxes and can't find one.

They are in short supply and big demand.

You know, even to go as far as how expensive these guitars are...

Fender (mass produced) 959
RICKENBACKER 1099 at musicians friend!!!
Gibson (mass produced) 2300

seriously ric's for their unsurpassed quality and attention to detail are usually around 1100 give or take a few hundered. Its definately goes to show that yes you can buy a bentley for 200K, or a vette, which is WAY cooler and 50k. love it

...or more appropriately:

Hand-Made Heritage: $1300+ (uses US hardware and custom-made US pickups)
Hand-made Fender: $2500+ (usually uses Mexican hardware and pickups)
Hand-Made Gibson: $4000+ (almost exclusively uses Korean hardware and pickups)
Hand-Made PRS: $6000+ (uses Korean hardware with custom US pickups)

Hand-Made Ric: $800-2200 (uses German tuners and US custom-made hardware and pickups)

Remember that you get what you pay for. I have wanted a Rickenbacker bass guitar since about 1979. I saved but life continually got in the way...To make it short, persistence pays. I bought my first 4003 in 2004 (real long time but VERY worth the wait). I've now started the 'second Rick fund'. Hope it won't be as long this time.

Fields,

Save up and take advantage of dealer financing, if you like. I'd consider a 620-12 if you are economy-minded. the 620 is a bit more affordable than the 330/360-12.
I like the extra treble and sustain on the 620-12 as well.
Good luck!

Plenty of good advice here. The central theme seems to be save and when possible, use dealer financing to your advantage. I'd buy new if I were you 'cause you got the factory and dealer warranties if anything goes wrong as opposed to nothin' if you buy cheap and used. After all, it is an investment that will appreciate if given proper care and maintenance.

The 18th Century band Upper Crust would give you this advice if you want to pay for a Ric. Hang in there, man:

"Daddy wants me to marry this girl
She's the richest old lady in the whole wide world
Well she ain't too good-looking and she's kinda old
But she don't have to be my rainbow she's my pot of gold
She's Old Money, she comes from Old Money

"Well she's got a certain charm that's what he said
Which you stand to inherit when she finally drops dead
She's a little bit skinny and she's kinda shy
But her bank account really caught my eye
She's Old Money, she comes from Old Money

"I'm gonna buy her a ring just as fast as I can
And ask that lady for her wrinkled old hand
And if she says yes and that she'll be mine
I hear the church bells ringin' up the dollar signs
She's Old Money, she comes from Old Money
