There is only one amp to use with a Rickenbacker and that's a Vox. But I am biased I'm British !!!

The Roland JC-40 also has stereo inputs for the Ric-O-Sound jack on the 360's. Great clean amp.

It's all subjective, but for Ricks, Vox amps & Celestion speakers match up very well. Cheers.

Most of the time, a 12-string guitar not staying in tune is operator error, whether wrong strings, including not using a set with a wound 3rd unison G string that intonates with the octave plain G string, tuning down instead of tuning everything up to pitch to keep the tension consistent from one side of the tailpiece to the other, not winding the strings properly onto the tuner shafts, worn nuts and bridge saddles, and any other number of items that the player must be aware of and fix the moment they become apparent. I have never had a problem with keeping my 12-string in tune, in spite of a six-saddle bridge and original klusons with more backlash than a loose belt.

OK, if you want to sound like early Byrds, I don't understand why the discussion is going beyond what he used then: Fender Twins with the speakers described, or Fender Dual Showman's with the 2X12 cabinets with the speakers described.

Everything else is an emulation. A good emulation, maybe, but just like all the Beatles' fans are going for the Vox AC30's and for both studio and the live sounds the later larger Vox amps, and for some of the studio tones, consulting the book on everything from Sir Macca's "coffin" amp and speaker cab in the early days to various later amplifiers, like John's Deluxe in the studio and the Fender silverfaced Bassman and Twins on the Apple Corp. rooftop.

Did I say Fender Twins and Dual Showman's, with the appropriate JBL or Jensen Fender "Special Design" contract speakers?

I saw them live in 1966 and they sounded awful with three Fender Dual Showman amps. McGuinn's Rick screeched with too much treble, the bass sounded distorted. Certainly nothing like the record. And they did not seem to care much about the sound.

Live sound is not the same or as controllable as studio sound.
