does anybody in the forum have a convertible comb 12 string Rick (336/12, 366/12, 456/12)? or at least material on them to share? (pics, videos etc...)
have only seen pictures around of these models and one video on youtube (but the 12 strings are always on)...did the idea work?

Howdy,
I have the 456/12. It is a 1967 model and it is my first Rickenbacker. The idea was unique at the time. As a 12 string guitar it is a true Rickenbacker. With the comb in place for a 6 string, it was not the best, but it served it's purpose. I still use mine as a 12 string and I use a 330 for my 6 string.

There used to be a video on YouTube of a guy demoing the 6 and 12 string features of a Converter model, dunno where it went.

thanks for the info...it would be great to watch a video demoing 6 and 12 strings convertible Ricks as I still don't get, even with the comb, how can the 6 strings that get pulled away stay totally muted since they are pressed on the fretboard...BTW there are a couple of convertibles on ebay right now...

Hi Steve...it would be great if you could spare some time to record and post a video of yours...

I remember seeing a performance by The Searchers in the late 70's and Mike Pender played a Mapleglo 456/12.

You'll find even more about convertibles on the RickResource forum. I had the opportunity to purchase one about 20 years ago. Thanks, but I passed.

The comb seems obtrusive, the guitar with that amp and the touch of delay sounds superb.
The comb contraption is cool, and that's a real show piece guitar that sounds great to boot. What a fantastic collectors guitar, lucky those that purchased one back in the day, sure it would cost an arm a a leg in today's market.
